The missing distinction: origin versus truth
A label can tell you something about how a file was made. It cannot certify every factual claim in it. A genuine recording can still be misleading, and a disclosed synthetic illustration can accompany accurate reporting.
What the related bill would cover
S. 4915 addresses covered synthetic images, video and audio. Its requirements include visible and embedded disclosures, obligations for covered platforms, and a standards process. Read its definitions and exceptions rather than assuming all AI uses have the same treatment.
How to judge a labeling system
Look for labels that survive reposting, clear error correction, and accessible disclosure. Ask how the system handles a genuine file falsely accused of being synthetic. These are evaluation questions, not claims that a proposed system already works.
What you can do next
- Find the original publisher and full context.
- Check disclosure and provenance without treating absence of a label as proof.
- Compare a labeling proposal’s definitions, platform coverage and remedies.

Keep this boundary in view
The poll is not an evaluation of detection accuracy or an endorsement of every provision in S. 4915. This record is not a complete survey of existing state or federal AI laws.
A selected pilot, not an exhaustive policy platform. Survey findings describe the sampled population and the stated question, not all Americans or every version of a proposal.
