OBI / Open ballot access
Public service should not have a paywall.
More people should be able to put their ideas—and their willingness to serve—before their community.
WHY THIS IS WORTH DOING
The size of a bank account should not decide whose ideas voters get to consider.
THE VISION
Remove ballot-access fees
Imagine a path from “I want to serve” to a clear, fair way to qualify for the ballot. Requirements should be understandable. A fee-free route should be real, not just a promise.
This quest brings Brandon’s ballot-access channel together with the OBI open ballot-access vision. The first concrete milestone is a named jurisdiction: document its current rules, propose a specific fee-free route, and make the remaining requirements visible.
OBI is the organizing name supplied for this quest; its official organization link has not yet been confirmed. Rules differ by jurisdiction. This is a reform invitation, not legal advice or a guarantee of ballot access.
A PLACE TO GO DEEPER
Explore Open Ballot on Election.org
Election.org describes its developing candidate-controlled ballot-access workflow. This is a related resource, not a claim that ballot qualification is automatic.
MAKE THE NEXT CHAPTER REAL
Start with one useful thing.
Know a candidate, an election-law researcher, or a local filing process? Help turn one confusing path into a clear, source-backed starting point.
- 01
Try a first step.
Find your jurisdiction’s official candidate guide and document its published filing requirements.
- 02
Build toward something concrete.
Map filing costs and qualifying routes in one jurisdiction, then publish a specific reform proposal.
- 03
Show what changed.
Share the work and its sources. Show the gaps as well as the progress. Give the next person a way to help.
What would count as progress?
Published rules showing the fee-free route and its remaining requirements. Track each jurisdiction separately.
A verified zero-cost route onto the ballot.
Goals are not reported results. A linked channel is not proof of an achieved outcome. This quest is an invitation to build, not a claim that a complete team or solution already exists.
